Class Placements
Classroom placement at Maple Wood is a process that takes teachers and staff many hours of careful thought and consideration. We look at gender, learning abilities, student needs, peer friendships & combinations (both positive and non-constructive), class size, social and academic strengths and challenges, diversity, as well as leadership and role models to form equitable classroom communities that we hope will ensure both social and academic development for all children.
Placing children in classes for their next school year is a very challenging task which we take very seriously. When making classroom placements we always consider the individual child while recognizing that each child is also part of a complex learning environment.
With children at the center of our process, our goal is to create an optimal learning environment for all students. This includes our commitment to a wide range of learners, as well as valuing the talents in every child. We know that appropriate placement is key to a successful year.
The placement process for the 2021-2022 school year will begin with an opportunity for parents to provide feedback. If you would like to provide the school with feedback about your child’s class placement please call the main office at (603) 692-3331 or email [email protected]. All feedback is due before April 22nd, 2022. Your child's current teacher, administration and guidance all provide information about your child to the team who will ultimately make placement decisions. This includes a variety of information which has been collected and observed over the current school year.
Once all this information is collected, a representative group of staff members uses a data driven process to place students into groups for the 2022-2023 school year. The first draft of placements is then given to your child's current teacher, the guidance department, and administration for additional feedback. This a very long process which spans 2 and a half months of school.
Families will receive their child’s placement in June with their child’s report card.
